Welcome To Midwest Dive Club

Midwest Dive Club is a new site and organization created to getting more midwesterners involved in the sport of SCUBA (Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus) diving as well as getting people that are already diving together to organize and plan dive trips and activities throughout the year. Although we are based out of the Kansas City area, which will be where we will hold our meetings, we will be catering to all midwesterners, and may open chapters in other cities down the road. If this is your first time to the site, please register with us, it is totally free. In the future registered members will receive a monthly or bi-monthly newletter with the various activities the group will be sponsoring as well as everything else from new and used gear for sale to tips and tales from our diving members. Our members will also receive special discounts on gear via a "direct from the manufacturer" approach as well as discounted dive trips that the club will be organizing. We are currently working on a trip to Belize for 7 days sometime in the Spring of 2004. Once we get more details on this, wewill post some pics and links explaining this further. Meanwhile, if you are interested in helping with the club, have any ideas, or just want to say hi, feel free to email us at or you can post to our forum with any questions, comments or information you would like to offer. There will be plenty more to come, so stay tuned, sign up and get involved if you are interested.

Diving Tips

Taken from The Wet Gazette, issue 22, A newsletter from Scuba4Less

It is getting to be the time of year when we slack off on diving. If there is ice in my water or it is really cold, it better be in a glass. This means we now have time to do all the little repairs to our equipment that we have been putting off. It is time to have regulators serviced, maybe change the o-rings in the BC valves. Check your fin straps for cracking and replace them if necessary. Check your mask strap and clean your mask well. Dry it and make sure you store you mask in a dark place to keep the silicone from being exposed to light. Knife straps always seem to wear out so dont forget to check them too. Take the batteries out of your lights and strobes. And, when you store your regulators make gentle loops in the hoses so that there is no pressure on the connectors or stress on the hoses. Dont hang then on pegs in your garage. Wash and dry your dive skins and wet suits if you are through with them for a while. It would be a good time to CLEAN everything for winter storage. I have a guy that can do any repairs or service that you may need if it gets to be too much for you to take care of on your own, just email me at and I will let you know more. Meanwhile, don't get to cold and get ready for the Kansas City Sportshow to warm things up, as well as upcoming club meetings and activities as we kick off the new year.

Local Dive Topics

Midwest Dive Club is putting together a PADI Open Water Certification this winter.  We are currently trying to locate and indoor pool that we can rent to offer to our members for a weekend.  There will be both bookwork and pool diving included in this package, and for the final completion divers will need to complete the actual open water part of there dive, held in Oronogo, MO a few hours South of Kansas City. Students will need to provide their own mask, fins, and snorkel while all other gear will be provided. We will be offering discounted rates for members on these packages, and are in the process of working that out to determine the actual rate.  For more info about the course and the requirements go to the PADI website.  If you are interested or have suggestions of a pool location we can use please email and we will contact you with further information.
